  • “Thank you Joleen, for opening up our minds to the world of color. Without your visions we would not have ended up with these beautiful pictures. Your creative style is amazing. We never thought taking family portraits could be so much fun!” Kim M.
  • “Joleen arrived at our photo shoot ready with her bag of tricks (tons of fun props and toys) to ensure that my three children had fun during the photo shoot. My kids warmed up to her immediately, and the end result was natural looking, fun, playing pictures! Her ease with young children and her natural talent as a photographer resulted in beautiful, heirloom quality photos.” Leslie S.
  • “As a friend of Joleen’s I have been fortunate to see her work progress throughout the past few years. I have been fortunate to have her shoot our young daughter and family on more than one occasion and each time she has been encouraging, calm, and fun. The shoots have been very relaxed and enjoyable and the final product has been beautiful.” Heather B.

Lay It Out

I really need to get a 12x12 scanner/printer, don't I? Ugh. I hate having to take photos of my pages because they always come out a wee bit wonky. The very first page I was able to scan because it's 8x8. The others are just a few of the pages I've done for someone else. I've been scrapping a lot and having a blast doing it. I love digi scrapping but nothing beats the real deal in my opinion! It's so fun putting the various elements together to achieve a certain aesthetic.

Dear Peyton,

You are such a freak. We affectionately  refer to you as "The Spaz" because you're all over the place. We're counting down the days until you're old enough for puppy school. You're three months old and all puppy- curious and wild. You antagonize poor Spencer by rounding him up like he epitomizes a flock of sheep, all the while jumping and nipping. And, God forbid you attempt to get within a two foot radius of him when he has a treat! He's almost taken your head off on several occasions but you're still oblivious. Regardless of any attempts to stop you, you feel the need to squeeeeeeeze yourself under the kitchen cabinets every chance you get to see what kind of treasures you can find. You worm and wiggle your way out of arms holding you even five feet above ground. You pee on the bed every time you're allowed up and if we change the sheets and mistakenly let you stay you pee again to let us know you wanted that there.

Oh, but that look! You know the one I'm talking about. The absolutely endearing, sweet one you give with your adorable wrinkly face and huge eyes. You have such personality! And let me just say, you give the best kisses!

Ruff!

Up until recently I've offered pet sessions, more as an "add on" then anything else. I haven't put any effort into that venture or really developed a strong vision. I'm happy to say- no longer! I've spent the last few weeks thinking about this and making plans. Starting this Summer/early Fall I will have all of the details ironed out and on the website. I will say that I am changing these sessions to Dogs only since that is where my true passion is. We're going to have two types of sessions including non traditional "studio" portraits as well as the oh-so-fun on location sessions.

I am looking for a couple dog lovin' owners / families that would like to volunteer an hour or two to help me develop my vision. In exchange you will receive a complimentary 11x14 from the session and 10% off any prints purchased.  You must live in Coachella Valley, the Inland Empire, or Orange County (or willing to travel).

Please email me if you're interested!

PS- Thanks to Spencer for being such a willing model. :)

Beep, Leave a Message!

If you've called the business line this week or intend to in order to schedule an appointment, please note that we will be unable to return your call until Tuesday. It seems a certain teen has gone off on Spring Break with the biz cell. Leave a message and we'll call you back next Tuesday! Or better yet, email and we'll get back to you within 24 hours!

Matilda Jane

A couple months ago I came across the most FABULOUS children's clothing company called Matilda Jane. Most of you know how I just adore fun + unique  childwear. The "perfect outfit" plays such an important role in my photography sessions. You cannot find Matilda Jane clothing in stores, nor on their website- they sell strictly through trunk shows. They've just come out with a beautiful new line for Spring that I am thrilled to announce we'll be offering!

Love, Joleen Photography is hosting a two day trunk show in May (La Quinta, Calif. on May 2; San Clemente, Calif. on May 3). If you would like to be invited to see these beautiful clothing pieces in person please send me an email with your home address so that I can mail you an invitation.  If you won't be able to make either trunk show because you'll be out of town or live too far away you can also email me to place your order via email. You can view their entire Spring collection here.

For those that attend, you'll be entered into a drawing for a set of 24 wallets, a complimentary 16 x 20, and a free photography session (for up to 4 people)!

Spring!

We are so excited about Spring around here! It's starting off to be so incredibly beautiful and full of things we love. We're looking forward to a fun + fantastic season!

Spring is my favorite time of year to photograph! The weather is nice, lighting is perfect, and scenery is gorgeous! We are quickly booking up (and feel so blessed that this is the case). We only have a few more openings in April and May left. If you've been looking for the perfect time to schedule a session let me encourage you to do it now. We'll be moving in June and taking most of the month off before we start our Summer (beach!!) sessions. As always you can email me with any questions or to book your session!

And last but not least we hope you had a wonderful Easter!

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead..." 1 Peter1:3

The Happiest Birthdays on Earth

Sunday I went to Disneyland with my sisters, my best friend, Candice, Alex, and his childhood friend, Brian. Even though it rained a short bit it was SO much fun. The great thing is that we went on 2fer tickets so in a couple of weeks we'll all go to California Adventure with the other half of our ticket. :)

25

Today I am 25! I had the most amazing birthday weekend with my family and friends. I have tons of photos to upload and scan (of the photobooth type) and will tell you all about it over the next couple of days! :) I just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who was with me or sending me good thoughts!! I'm having the best birthday celebration!

Baby Bits + Being Blessed

How's that for a title? :) I just love baby parts! Details of all the rolls and curls are just so sweet. I thought I would share a few more photos of little Miss E. (I hope you like them, Tracy!)

I've spent a lot of time thinking about my life during the last couple of weeks and I feel so blessed. I know I mentioned it before last week- my feeling quite happy. It feels so great to have hope. Even as challenges are thrown my way, (and there have been many!) at my core I just feel so at peace. I *LOVE * my job as a photographer! I am thankful for a talent that blesses others. I was reading my devotional tonight and was so struck by the following verse:

"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

Happy Friday, friends!
