Last week at the portfolio presentation at SCAD, the girl giving the presentation made a comment about recently writing her own statement of purpose. In it, she talked about the creative mind being both a blessing and a curse. This has been on my mind ever since because of how incredibly true it is! I have had many artist friends over the years talk about "inspiration" and "their muse". It's so exciting and exhilarating to be in a place where inspiration flows freely and you're able to keep creating. The curse comes when it's 2 o'clock in the morning and you can't tell your brain to please, please just STOP already.
This has been my "problem" for the last week, and I honestly welcome it. I am embracing it because I know how fleeting this is. Do I want to be up at 2 am, 3 am, 6 am? Heck no! But, I would MUCH rather this be the cause than something bad or negative. I've started keeping my daily planner on the nightstand, (I'm old fashioned, I know) turned to the notes page because inevitably I will just be settling down to sleep when a "genius" idea comes to my mind that I absolutely. can. not. forget!
