Talk about a LONG day!!!! I wasn't anticipating it being so eventful, that's for sure. Before leaving Albuquerque, NM this morning, Monique made a yummy breakfast and we took the kiddos out for a little photo op. Then I stopped by Starbucks and was on my way! Just a little tip if you ever decide to drive through New Mexico - the left lane is for passing only!!!! I got a ticket ($71!!)
I had no plans to go through Texas but it turns out the Garmin had other ideas! I stopped to get gas and went inside to prepay my $40. The guys inside chuckled and said I could pay afterward but that it was fine so I went out to pump. I couldn't figure out which pump was mine or how to get it to work (ha!) until asking another customer. When I went over by 30 cents I took my change inside to pay and everyone had a good laugh at my expense. I have to say, it was pretty funny!! You don't see things like that in California! Imagine?? Next I went through the pan handle of Oklahoma. Interesting thing there.. my cell phone stopped working COMPLETELY while I was driving through - no texts, calls, nada. I even tried customer service and got a weird busy tone. The moment I drove into Kansas, my phone started receiving texts. Funny! Wonder what the story is there. :)
Soooo, my adventures in Kansas have thrown me for a little loop. I had decided to stay in Dodge City for the night, thinking it was somewhat "on the way" to Topeka (my destination tomorrow). All but one [smoking] room in the motel I found this morning online was booked and they were asking twice the price listed. The other local motels were booked too. Who'd a thunk it? Apparently there is something called Dodge City Days and I pulled in smack dab in the middle of it. Way to go, Joleen! In my attempt to "get the hell outta Dodge" I got my SECOND ticket of the day (and ever!!) for speeding (at a whopping 45 mi/hr) adding $100.50 to my fees for the day. Wonderful. Had myself a good little cry after that. Plugged Topeka into the Nav and off I went. The Garmin took me 20 miles in the wrong direction (hello, U TURN!!) so I probably wasted my time and gas for about 100 miles total. Ugh. I finally ended up stopping in a town called Larned, KS, where I am now for the night. I was treated to an amazing lightning show along the way. I even managed to get a pic of one but that's nothing compared to what I was seeing!
Well, I'm exhausted, obviously, so I'm headed to bed. Here's to a MUCH LESS adventurous day tomorrow!! Love and hugs. ♥
